Tips for Pressure Cleaning Your Exterior Walls

Posted on: 8 April 2016

The outside of your house is exposed to the elements day in day out, and over time, it is bound to get dirty. If you find that your exterior walls could do with a bit of a spring clean to revitalise the paint colour, to remove staining, and to remove a build-up of mould and mildew, one of the most useful pieces of kit for the job is a high pressure washer. But unless you know what you are doing, you could cause more harm than good. Here are a few things to keep in mind.

Choose the right pressure cleaner. In order to get the best result, you need to use the best piece of equipment. Some pressure cleaners simply blast water, and while this is useful, you are better off purchasing or renting a high pressure cleaner that can also blast cleaning detergent on to your house so that you can kill two birds with one stone.

Stay safe. With any kind of pressure cleaning, you want to make sure you are staying safe while cleaning, because the intense pressure of one of these cleaners can potentially cause a lot of damage. This means that you should wear protective clothing and eye goggles. When operating the high pressure cleaner, it's important to ensure that nobody else, nor your pets, are in the vicinity. Because a high pressure cleaner could potentially shatter your windows, practice on a surface that is lower risk, such as a garden fence, before cleaning your exterior walls.

Start with a low pressure. Although the point of pressure cleaning is to use the force of the water to dislodge dirt and mildew, using too much could actually be a problem. The force of some pressure washers can actually strip off paint so it's a good idea to start at the lowest setting and move up in the smallest increments to ensure you don't cause any damage.

Don't be scared to call the professionals. If your home is one storey high, you should have no problem tackling the cleaning job yourself, but larger buildings can present some difficulties. In this situation, it's best to lean on the talents of a professional cleaning service rather than to take on the task yourself and accidentally smash your windows.

Follow these tips and you'll soon have a fresh looking home exterior that will be envied by all your neighbours. For more information, contact companies like Southern Cross Cleaning (SA) Pty Ltd.

Cleaning a water fountain

Our office building has a beautiful water fountain at the front of our lobby. Most people throw coins in there to make a wish, but some people can't resist the urge to throw other things like bottle caps in there. When rubbish gets thrown in there it can clog up the mechanism, and it's also just an eyesore if it's dirty in an area that is the first thing that most people see when they come into the building. We have a cleaning service that comes in to clean the water fountain and keep it looking spectacular all of the time.
